this isn't a big thought out post... no huge revelations or anything. just a question and a thought (and then off to get ready for work...)
as i was thinking about our text and going over it several times in my head, i had the line "He is the image of the invisible God..." repeating...
My question...
What does that mean? He is the image of the invisible...?
Then thinking about my question this morning I thought of 2 Cor. 4:16-18...
"So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison, as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal."
that verse/those verses probably are completely unrelated to what i'm talking about...i just had that thought...
and i really would love to know your thoughts on this...

I'm grateful I don't have to be an amazingly smart, great scholar and understand fully every phrase in the Bible to understand the gospel and know Jesus and have salvation and the hope of heaven... isn't God amazing?

Beth,
I really really related to your post! And sometimes, I have to admit,I feel like I'm writing to an invisible audience since I really haven't met you'll yet. But I can't wait.
I like your question though. "What does that mean". . .maybe the answer lies in that we can't see him, but we know he's there, like faith. Then he's in our hearts working, and working even in non-Christians hearts, and even people who don't know him, he has known since before they were born!
Here's something my friend Joseph said that really helped me look at the whole "principalities" thing differently but I think it kind of speaks to what you were saying. .
"Jesus has the power to melt the hearts of kings. . ."
this made me think. . . the Lord can change things, but he does so almost behind the scenes, even in an ordinary and humble way, and all this to show his glory!
I might be wrong, but maybe it's in our sin that we make him invisible.
